The Force Awakens Figures Are Here!

First look at leaked The Force Awakens action figures | Green Card Back

It was just last week that I commented about the building anticipation for the upcoming Force Friday reveals – turns out that we didn’t have to wait too much longer to see what we’re going to be getting!

Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma are probably the two best looking figures that are out there currently and I’m sure that both will be in high demand. There are already some warning signs about the overall quality of the releases though, with figures like the Resistance Trooper and Poe Dameron in X-Wing gear looking ill-conceived and cheap, whilst the build a weapon pack-in just looks… yeah. Not in the slightest like something that would have interested me as a kid. The ‘Armor Up’ feature isn’t really that much better, although it does offer a few more play possibilities.

I’m sure that The Force Awakens toy line will be a reasonable hit, but given what Hasbro achieved in 1996 with the exemplary Sandtrooper it’s disappointing to see that the new Flametrooper will be unable to hold his weapon in both hands. Obviously I have no qualms about 5POA, but at this point in time there’s really no excuse for not making a figure with a two-handed weapon that’s able to hold it properly.

Still, there’s enough negativity going around about the new figures right now, when in reality some of them look like decent toys. Now if only they would hurry up with showing us the old man Jedi Luke figure…

Whichever way you cut it, the wait for September 4th just became a lot easier.

  1. I don’t have any issues with 5 POA, in fact I’m finding I tend to prefer it. It does seem like these are overpriced though, and I’ve heard price quotes of $10-12 depending on the store. That just seems too much for what you get.

    • Yes, I’d agree with most of that, although I do still keep SA figures on hand to futz around with. I think a 5POA budget line is a fantastic idea, but a 5POA line at premium prices is a rip off. The quality appears to be all over the place as well; I’ve seen loose pictures of Poe Dameron and it looks appallingly cheap. We’ll know for sure if Disney is trying to fleece us in a few short weeks…
